The Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club has wrapped up a sparkling season with two outstanding events in a week, celebrating both the swimmers' achievements and the remarkable commitment of families, coaches, and volunteers. This season marked the club's first full year training at Omagh Leisure Centre, and the annual End of Season Gala was a fitting conclusion. The gala brought together swimmers from all training groups, from beginners to national championship-level competitors, despite the challenges of regular travel to Omagh. The event showcased the swimmers' progress with impressive performances and plenty of medals and smiles. Parents and supporters were treated to exhibition swims from top athletes, inspiring younger swimmers. The day concluded with the popular 'Mother of all Relays', where 60 swimmers and parents competed fiercely in a five-minute relay, with Coach Chelsey Weir's team claiming first place. Earlier, the club enjoyed an afternoon of activities at Blue Green Yonder on Castle Island, rounding off the season in style. The annual prize-giving ceremony recognized swimmers' progress and commitment, with cup winners and Coaches' Awards presented. The club also celebrated swimmers completing their first year in Omagh and recognized senior swimmers' contributions. Just a day later, a squad of 21 Lakelanders traveled to Lisburn for the Swim Ulster Swim Festival 2026, delivering exceptional results. The festival introduced a mixed-age 300m relay, with the Lakelanders making an immediate impact. Holly Barkley stood out, winning multiple medals and setting a six-second personal best. Anna May Hill and Emily Irvine also impressed, securing gold and bronze medals. James McSorley and Anton Neal collected silver and gold medals, while Haralds Uzulins won gold in multiple events. Finley Walker-Leonard achieved second-place finishes, and younger swimmers gained valuable competition experience. Club PRO Janette Mongan praised the swimmers' dedication and hard work, highlighting their achievements as a fitting reward. The season has emphasized the strength and spirit of the club, with six Lakelanders now qualified for the Irish National Championships. The Enniskillen Lakelanders have once again demonstrated the power of community sport, and their achievements are a source of pride for the club and the wider Enniskillen and Fermanagh community.
